The Dresden Connection
In this programme, the baroque court in Dresden under Augustus the Strong becomes an international focal point for music: instrumental concertos by the concert master Johann Georg Pisendel and the court composer from Bohemia, Jan Dismas Zelenka, correspond with sacred solo cantatas by the highly admired Antonio Vivaldi, whose music was brought back by Pisendel to the Dresden court after his year in Venice.
