Tanya Aspelmeier sings sacred arias by G.P. Telemann. Eight arias, which are driven by an almost classical drama and in Schirokko‘s interpretation move the listener deeply. Here for the first time, compositions by Telemann can be heard which have long been regarded as lost and were only returned to the stock of the Hamburg university library in 1992 as part of looted art returned from Russia. Touching chorale arrangements as well as a lively violin concerto played by Rachel Harris successfully round off this Telemann-CD.
“… Ensemble Schirokko consists of musicians who have dedicated themselves to historical performance practice, not only performing on period instruments with obvious pleasure, but under the direction of Rachel Harris also giving a vivid interpretation. The part of soprano Tanya Aspelmeier was the perfect compliment… Violins, viola, cello and violone … added to those the wonderful sound of horns, oboes, recorders and a bassoon formed a self-contained whole, Rachel Harris using her body movement to help bring the music to life.”
